In ancient India,the women enjoyed equal status with man in all fields of life.During the Rig Vedic era society was patriarchal but even the status of won was better than the later ages and they had properly rights where they enjoyed with men.
But later Vedic period they had gradually lost their rights.women were gradually pushed into the interiors of home and confined to household activities only.while sons were important in patriarchal societies.women were viewed rather differently
They had no claims to the household resourseces.At the same time,marrying them into families outside the kind was considered desirable.The gift of daughter during marriage or 'kanyadaan'.was considered to be an important religious duty of the father.

The word stridhana is a combination of two words - "stri" means women and "dhan" means property.Etymologically, the term conveys women's property in modern Hindu law the term means not only the Dustincts properties as referred to in smritis.
Stridhana is a term associated with Hindu law . The character of property that is whether it is stridhana or women estate,depends on the source from with it has been obtained.A women has inalienable rights over stridhana and she can claim. The same even after her separation from her husband.
RIGHTS OF WOMEN OVER HER STRIDHANA
The power of the women to dispose of her property during converturies depends upon the nature of stridhana.If he helds non-Soudokiya property,she can't dispose of such properties without her husband consent.If the women holds. the property during widewood,she can dispose of her properties.Whether acquired before or after her husband's death.
